About

Welcome to Midvale Heights!

Midvale Heights Community Association (MHCA) has been serving members of the Midvale Heights neighborhood since our incorporation in 1954. Created by and for residents, we are a member-supported organization serving over 1,000 households bounded by Midvale Blvd to the East, Whitney Way to the West, Mineral Point Road to the North, and roughly Odana Road to the South. See the map

We offer a variety of ways for neighbors to meet and engage with one another through events and activities. We encourage you to become a member and get involved - we’d love to meet you!

Our History

As Madison expanded westward, the Midvale Heights neighborhood was created from farmland beginning in the late 1940s, the two largest of which were Piper Farm and Horstmeier Farm. Many local properties were featured in the Parade of Homes during the 50s and 60s, showcasing our range of ranch, mid-century modern, Cape Cod, and Dutch Colonial styles.

On October 6, 1954 a meeting attended by about 50 Midvale Heights residents was held at Midvale School for the purpose of starting a community association. A committee was appointed to do the research, and once articles and by-laws were proposed, they were approved in November and the first board was elected.

Midvale Heights encompasses six parks/playrounds and is bisected by a walking path that connects to other neighborhoods and the nearby Southwest Commuter Path and Odana Golf Course. The area has hosted two malls over time, Midvale Heights Shopping Center and Westgate Mall, more recently redeveloped into the HyVee complex and Sequoya  Library & Commons. Many businesses had their start here as well, including Epic Systems, originally housed in the old Midvale Elementary.

Board & Officers

Midvale Heights Community Association board members are elected on a bi-annual basis. Most are Area Directors, representing a certain district within the neighborhood. Many are also Program Directors, overseeing a certain event or activity we provide for area residents.

The Board meets from 6-8 pm the fourth Tuesday of each month, except in December and July. Meetings are held at the Sequoya Public Library, 4340 Tokay Boulevard, and are free and open to the public. We also host an Annual Meeting in October. See our Event Calendar for dates.
