Midvale Heights Community Association Chair Joy Cardin, her sister Judy Cardin, Midvale Heights Bison Gateway Prairie volunteer caretaker Chuck Kreimendahl collaborated to plant a Rusty Patched Bumble Bee Garden Kit in the existing prairie on Monday, May 25th. The bison sculptures approved! Thanks also to Rob who biked over to supervise and take some photos.
The Bison Gateway Prairie (gateway to the Midvale Heights neighborhood) is located where the Southwest Bike Path meets Midvale Boulevard. By the way, the bison sculptures are scheduled for an artistic preservation facelift in September!
The kit was designed by Judy and purchased at the recent Friends of the Arboretum native plant sale. Among other things, Judy knows what native plants are favored by the endangered rusty patched and other native bees. She is an educator with the WI DNR’s Bumble Bee Brigade and a coordinator of the website Wisconsin/Midwest Bumble Bee Observers.
If you would like to learn more about how to help native bees, you are invited to attend Judy’s presentation - “The Buzz in Your Garden” - on Saturday, May 30 at the Sequoya Library from 9:30am to 11am. Sponsored by the Midvale Heights Community Association Green Team.
